Don Outdoors
Welcome to Don Outdoors, the writing outlet for Don H. Meredith, writer and biologist living on Vancouver Island in British Columbia (on the traditional land of the Cowichan First Nation of the Coast Salish People). In this blog I write about my experiences as a wildlife biologist and outdoor enthusiast in the wilds of Canada and beyond. As well, I write about the human experience—the joys, the challenges and the threats we all face.
I was born in Los Angeles, California, shortly after the end of World War II, which puts me firmly at the leading edge of the Baby Boomers. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Zoology at Oregon State University, a Master of Science in Biology at Central Washington State College and Ph.D in Zoology at the University of Alberta. I have worked as a wildlife biologist in the Canadian High Arctic, northern Alberta and in the Alberta Rocky Mountains
I wrote a monthly column and several feature articles for the Alberta Outdoorsmen magazine, and have published many articles in numerous other publications, including Canadian Geographic and the Edmonton Journal. I have published two award-winning young-adult adventure novels, Dog Runner and The Search for Grizzly One. I am a past President of the Outdoor Writers of Canada, and I am a member of The Writers’ Union of Canada.
